Samantha
Hey all i'm Samantha i'm 17 and have been a young carer since I was 6 so i'm pretty much a vetran. I've always been involved in activities that i feel will help to benefit young carers as a whole. Recently i became involved in establishing YCR or Young Carers Revolution. The group allows young carers to raise any issues they have and give them a voice. This movement has been set up in the hope to make a difference to peoples understanding of what young carers are about.
My own goal as a founding member is to help demolish stereotypes and educate people into the real life situations of young carers. To acheive this we need to raise awareness and give people a better understanding about who we are and what we aim to do. But we can't do it without you. We recently proposed and idea to hold a conference about the aims and opinions of YCR this will help to make people aware of our movement. In the coming groups we hope to establish our logo and brand so if you have any ideas give me a shout!

I'm Rosina, I'm quite new to Young Carers but I like to be involved in things. I'm 14 I was born in York, I'm quite different and like that about myself, even though it sometimes makes me a target. About a year ago my Mum was diagnosed with Fibromialgia, making me a young carer. I don't want people to look at young carers as a sob story, I'm proud of it and I don't want pity. My aim is to make people understand what it's like to care for someone, even though your still a child. I don't want pity but I do want understanding and sometimes teachers can be harsh. I'd like to get all those unknown young carers to be discovered so they can recieve the help and support that I get. I joined YCR because I'm very loud and opinionated and I want to be the voice of other young carers that are shy and don't feel comfortable standing up and saying what they mean. We are currantly working on developing a logo and arranging a conferance so we can spread our opinions and ideas in wider circles. We are also thinking about methods of recruting new members and creating a bigger young carers action group. Watch this space..........

I'm Sophee and i'm a young carer. I have a vision, a vision to make a change. My vision is to make people aware of who we are and what we stand for. I want to represent other young carers and our rights, views and opinons. Our mission is to empower young carers to have a voice. I am one of the founding members of the Young carers revolution steering group! During our time in this group we have been disscussing ways in which we can make a change by raising awareness and improving peoples understanding of what we do.
I am involved in the YCR steering group to get across the points of me and other young carers. Our initial ideas have been to gibve ourself an identitiy in the form of a logo/brand that represents the YCR. Our other ideas include: recruiting new members, contacting people of infulence and creating a media campaign and to highlight some of the key issues raised by young carers.
We have also consisdered setting up a conference led by young carers to influence schools, doctors, parents and other professionals working with young carers and their families.
I'm looking forward to where the YCR may take us.
Please feel free to get involved and leave a comment; if you want to be part of the movement email us at- youngcarersrevolution@gmail.com

Welcome to Young Carers Revolution
Young Carers Revolution was born on 11th June 2009.
Original members Rosina, Samantha & Sofee met with Inspired Youth to discuss the plans and kick-off proceedings. Over the coming months we will be creating a organic movement to raise awareness and give young carers a voice. The process will be guided by 8 elements.
- Establish a steering group of young carers
- Begin to define the most prevalent issues and a way of working together on those issues
- Define the group's identity and create branding for the group with young carers working in partnership with professional designers
- Engage a wider group of young carers in the York & district area to be actively involved
- Engage people in power who have influence and a will to help us achieve our aims
- Identify and promote role-models who are or have been young carers
- Develop a creative media campaign to communicate the experience of young carers to a wider audience
- Create a BLOG to capture the journey!
